I just bought your pattern. Do you have digital images of the pattern pieces? I was considering reducing the size by 25% since I would be quilting it on a standard machine.

Hi,
I’m sorry we don’t have files we can share. However, we’ve taken pattens to Kinkos/FedEx a few times and they can do that for you.

Hi, I just bought this pattern. I have a question. Do you sew each block with satin stich for example or are you waiting at the end when yhe quilt has backing and binding with free motion? Thank you
Mary Hoover
January 19, 2017 @ 11:13 am
Hi Sylvia,
Thank you for your inquiry. You can applique the flowers using any method you wish. In the pattern, we suggest using Edge-coloring Appliqué. We have a free tutorial on YouTube explaining the technique, step-by-step; look for Edge-coloring Appliqué, Full Bloom, Block One.
If you are a longarm quilter, you can appliqué and quilt at the same time. We a have a YouTube tutorial on that as well; look for Edge-coloring Appliqué, Longarm Edition.
Have fun!

Hi Audrey,
It’s called Roxanne’s Glue Baste-it. Quilt shops carry it and we also have it on our site.

I have just started blocks 1, 2, and 3 and am wondering about detailing the petals. I’ve watched all your youtube video’s and found them very helpful! I will not be using a long arm for quilting my quilt, and wonder if you have any recommendations on how to do this on a regular machine. I am new to this type of “Thread painting” so I was also thinking about detailing the petals as I put together each block that way I could control the fabric better and prevent puckers from forming on the backing. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

In sewing the flowers do you wait for the glue to dry first?
Mary Hoover
January 4, 2016 @ 8:54 am
Hi, You should wait for the glue to dry. But it takes about 1 minute to dry.
Thank you for your question. Have fun with the project.

I got my pattern in the mail just before Christmas. It will be my first major machine appliquéd quilt, so it may take me a while!

I completed blocks 1 and 2; however even with the recommended stabilizer , there’s still a little puckering. How do I avoid this? Also I watched the tutorial on the edge coloring – is messy still good for all the appliquéd pieces. Please advise. Thanks for creating such an awesome pattern.

Hi Normie,
Thank you for kind words. We loved creating it.
Try adjusting the tension to help with the puckering. Yes, messy is BEST. We do this technique on all of the pieces.

Used stabilizer blocks still puckered. So sad. Should we square up blocks after stabilizer is removed.
Mary Hoover

Sorry to hear that. Press it well and square after removing the stabilizer.

To remove the stabilizer more easily, I rub the hard handle part of my scissors on the back along all the lines of sewing. This breaks down the paper along the stiches, and it pulls away cleaner. I have all the blocks done and am finishing up the small flowers. It’s a beautiful project. Peggie LeMire

Hi gals:
I have never enjoyed a project as much as I’m enjoying Full Bloom. However, I’m now struggling to remove the paper backing on the stabilizer. Are there any tricks to make this process easier? Is there any chance you will do a tutorial on how to do this? It’s seems impossible to remove all the paper.
Thanks for any advice you can give me,

Hi Judy
There is no trick. The paper will remain behind the stitches and that is not a problem. Yes, it may be time consuming but you just need to take your time. Remember the little pieces left behind will not cause any problems. If you do not use the stabilizer your block will pucker during the appliqué process.
Thank you for your question.
Cheers

Working on the first block. Are we only doing the edge coloring on the dark lined areas? Meaning at no time doing this individual block are we defining any other parts of the pedals? And also confirming no stitching at this time on our shading pieces? Thank you for your help.
Mary Hoover
August 25, 2015 @ 10:17 am
Hi Marsha,
While making the individual blocks, you’re only doing the appliqué or securing the edges. In this case, Edge-coloring appliqué. EVERY piece of the flower gets appliquéd during this stage, even the shadows and highlights.
Definition of the petals happens during the quilting.
Thanks for your question.

I’m ready to make the small flowers. Do I use a single , a top and a bottem for each flower? Or is it a mix and match ? Please advise.
Mary Hoover
July 9, 2015 @ 10:06 am
There are two types of small flowers, single and double(a top & a bottom). The single flowers can have either a single center or a double center. The double flowers can either a single center or a double center. We mention this on page two of the pattern instructions. Also, we have a Youtube video all about the small flowers.
Hope this helps,

We use the standard length. Whatever the setting is when we turn on our machine.

Here’s a question for you: Your instructions say to wash the fabric before using. I never wash my fabric prior to quilting. Is there a definite reason for this or is it an option?
Mary Hoover
May 4, 2015 @ 5:38 pm
We always encourage quilters to pre-wash their fabric to release the excess dye, remove the sizing and to shrink all of the fabrics to be the same. Early in our quilting careers we had several disappointing instances where, after creating something beautiful and meaningful, the quilts were washed they ran because of excess dye. After the work you’re about to put into this project we don’t want you feel that disappointment.
We hope this answers your question.
Cheers,
Mary & Barbara
